Cargo Cult Analytics:

If the pace at which you receive new metrics outstrips the pace at which you can change your newsroom’s priorities, then what’s the point?

The Global Seed Vault can anchor us in deep time:

The most dramatic videos of climate change — where you can actually see it taking place — are made by time-lapse, a process that converts non-human timescales to those that fit into our narrow perceptual filters. Time-lapse reduces days to seconds, and years to minutes, but the conversion can go the other way as well. When we expand our vision of the natural world from human time to geologic time, our own individual consciousness and the consequences of our action and inaction become thin strata in a geologic archive that contains aeons.

Fall begins

My favorite season in Portland is the cusp of Fall. After torrential downpours last week the weather is clear and the air crisp.

Spending last week in Sonoma, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz was fantastic. It also made me appreciate the variety we get in the Northwest.

The Jellyfish Model. Smart post about distributed work teams from a year ago. The best team is transparent, distributed, decentralized, collaborative, adaptive, and egoless.
