Hiking through Yosemite

I took a long weekend and headed home for a few days. The snowpack this winter was one of the best in the last decade or so which means the waterfalls in Yosemite are tremendous.

Saturday was filled with the 4 Mile Trail (the name’s a lie, really 4.7 miles each way). It’s an awesome trail with great views of the valley, Yosemite Falls, and a wonderful panorama from Glacier Point. It’s also 3,200 feet of elevation gain.

Monday I headed up to the high country and did a much shorter 5+ mile hike out Tamarack Creek. Pretty easy compared to Saturday but it ended with some great cascades. It was also great because over 5 miles we saw only a half dozen people, something that’s really rare for Yosemite in July.

Elowah, Horsetail, and Oneonta Falls

Took some time-off with a friend in town to hike a few short loops in the Columbia Gorge. 3 waterfalls in just 6 miles is a pretty sweet deal. Pretty overcast day but hiking on a Friday meant that trails weren’t too crowded.

Japanese Tea Garden

Some very good friends gave Leah and I a year-long membership to the Japanese Garden in Portland. The weather was nice for a change so we went to check it out. I want to go back with a book and just chill for a few hours; it’s quite the relaxing place.

Vienna

Had an absolute blast with the rest of the Happiness team during our week in Vienna. Got a lot of work done but had quite a bit of fun as well.

Estoril and Lisbon, Portugal

Automattic Happiness Team meetup in Estoril, Portugal. Also a day-trip to Lisbon and Cabo da Roca.
