Took advantage of Portland’s annual fake-spring to get a 3.5-mile run in on the waterfront. Totally looking forward to running in nicer weather more consistently.

A few days ago I finished Haruki Murakami’s, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. Loved it; great book. It’s a book about running that, really, is about far more than running. Murakami weaves an engaging memoir together that illustrates the place running has in his life, work, and personal happiness.

18 miles

Hit my goal of 18 miles for today. Snapped this from the turnaround point at Mt. Tabor. Severely underestimated the elevation difference on the way up; resulted in having to walk a bit of mile 16.

Sunday afternoon run

Sunday afternoon run

Great 15-mile run through Forest Park this afternoon. Now that I’m in the teens distance-wise it’s a lot harder to incrementally add further distance. The last mile today was killer. I also need to find a better route for future runs, capped out today because I hit Skyline Boulevard on the West side of the park.

Took advantage of the beautiful sunshine this morning and got a great run in on the beach. Flying home from Charleston this afternoon.

Afternoon run

The weather was great this afternoon so I got a nice long run in.

My apartment overlooks Lone Fir Cemetary here in Portland. It’s a thirty-acre cemetery that dates to the 1840s. Makes for a quiet and peaceful start and end to every run.

Good to the Last Drop. A look at the impact caffeine consumption can have on endurance runners.

Nolan’s 14. An insane course over 60 hours through Colorado that summits fourteen 14,000-foot peaks. Since it started as an unofficial race in 1999 only 7 people have finished.

Apparently it takes about two weeks to get completely out of shape. Ooph.

Had a great breakfast at Jam on Hawthorne this morning followed by a long overdue run. Nice that it’s finally sunny again.
