I grew up out in the woods, where treetops were the only impediment to stargazing. After almost two decades in cities I’d forgotten that stars could be a nightly sight. There’s no need here to camp out somewhere remote, we just walk outside.
This didn’t sink in until the last few nights, which have been crystal clear with an almost-full moon. After 6 months in Dublin (and with how rainy and grey Ireland can be) it didn’t occur to me that a move out to the countryside would also mean a move back to starlight.
It all adds to the feeling of a more natural rhythm to life. Free from the artificial light of cities, the days change in a more noticeable way. Now I just need to get a tripod and learn astrophotography!
