We had 5 large bags of mulch and gravel dropped off today. By my math, that’s 60 square meters and roughly 1,300 pounds of stuff for the garden. We had 13 raised beds to mulch and a 75 square meter polytunnel to spread new pathway cover throughout.

Thankfully the weather was clear all morning, so we hustled to get at least the compost mulch spread. That meant more wheelbarrow trips than I could count, and lots and lots of shoveling. Mushu had a blast and just followed us around as we took load after load back and forth.

By the end of it we had all the beds mulched and half the polytunnel redone. What’s left in the polytunnel is bark mulch down the outside edges and gravel down the center pathway. And I need to figure out some divider to keep the two separated. The hope is that this keeps things less dusty and a little less spider-filled than the inches and inches of straw that was there before.

Also on the list for this weekend is to plant all the seedlings we started and the further along plants we bought. The water timer for the drip system got hit by the frost before we moved in so there’s a replacement on the way for that as well. Hopefully it all leads to a summer of delicious, homegrown food!
