There’s a fish shop in Skibbereen with, seemingly, its own heron that perches on pavement instead of water.

When I first saw it, I thought it was lucky timing. Surely such a majestic bird cannot regularly take up residence in a parking lot! This one does, and I’ve now seen it three times. Yesterday it even brought a buddy as two were perched out there.

My theory is that it knows exactly what it’s doing. Its proximity to a fish shop, after all, cannot be a coincidence. Perhaps it traded hunting for patience as it waits for scraps of fish to be discarded.
